We are passionate about Web Standards, Web Accessibility, Awesome Design, and Italian Food.
How it all Started
In the beginning, Al Gore created the internet under the watchful eye of Chuck Norris. Fast forward to 2009 where the internet (also known as “the interwebs” lolz) is a world within itself. Where do we fit in you may ask? Here at Peer Pressure Creative we are passionate about Web Standards, Web Accessibility, and awesome design. Now some of you, well… probably all of you out there reading this are wondering “what do they mean by Web Standards and Web Accessibility??” Good Question! Here’s what we mean…
Web Standards
Unfortunately there are still quite a number of web developers out there who do not follow web standards, and some that even create table based layouts (oh, the humanity!). What you should know is that websites not developed and structured to follow the standards set out by W3C will not work or display correctly in all browsers on all platforms. We test all our sites on the latest batch of browsers (and even IE 6!), so you and your company can be sure that your customers can see your presence on-line, exactly the way you want them to.
Web Accessibility
Ok, when we talk about web accessibility, we’re referring to the practice of making websites usable by people of all abilities and disabilities. When websites are designed and developed correctly, all end users will be able to obtain all information and functionality from your website. Web standards and web accessibility go hand in hand. For example, when a website is developed to follow web standards, it has semantically meaningful HTML which helps blind users using text-to-speech software and/or text-to-Braille hardware navigate your website pretty easily (pretty cool, huh?). Another reason to develop websites that follow web standards / web accessibility is that Google (and every other search engine in the world) is the ultimate disabled user! Google cares nothing for what your website looks like, it only cares about being able to successfully pull all information out of your website. What does that correlate to, you may ask?? Search engine rankings, that’s what! Yep, you got it… adhering to web standards / web accessibility will earn you points with search engines because they can better understand what your site is all about. Ok, do you understand why we are sooooooo passionate about web standards / web accessibility now?! Good!
